GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- Gerald “Shorty” White of Grants Pass, Ore., a former resident of Newton, died of cancer Sunday, Sept. 24.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- Funeral services for Gerald Eugene White, 74, of Grants Pass, Ore., a former resident of Newton, were held recently at St. Anne Catholic Church.

Slawson’s Chapel of Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass was in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Karl Schray conducted services. Burial was in the mausoleum in Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Maxine; two sons, Patrick Eugene of Grants Pass and Timothy Shawn of Monrovia, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Theresa Green of Grants Pass, Ore.; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are two brothers, Paul White of Newton and Gene White of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Frances Hobbs of Kellogg and Dolly Paul of Vallejo, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Gerald, in 1985.

Mr. White, a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, was a member and director of St. Gabriel Valley chapter of the American Bowling Congress in California.

Mr. White was an employee of the Los Angeles Board of Education for 33 years, retiring in 1977.

He was born Nov. 7, 1914 in Lorimor, was educated in Newton schools and was graduated from Newton Community High School.

He moved to Grants Pass in 1983 from Monrovia, Calif.
