Max G. Williams

PRAIRIE CITY -- Max G. Williams, 80, of Prairie City, former owner of an independent trucking firm, died Sunday, March 19, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax.

The Rev. John Mc Kinstry, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.

Friends may call the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City after noon Tuesday.

Survivors are his wife, Edith; a son, Walter Claire of Prairie City; two daughters, Maxine (Mrs. Dennis) Brubaker of Grundy Center and Barbara Hill of Prairie City; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Dean of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Mildred Davis of Clover, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Mr. Williams, a member of the Christian Church, was a former member of the Prairie City Fire Department, Prairie City School Board and Lions Club.

The son of James and Bessie Moore Williams, he was born Sept. 25, 1908 in Des Moines and was graduated from Clarion High School.

He was married to Edith Peery Sept. 4, 1937 in Perry.
