Herman Wood
Herman B. “Woody,” Wood, 67 of 420 E. 6th St. N., a resident of Newton since September, 1947, died of a heart attack Wednesday morning, Jan. 18, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Jerry Brown, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery, where a military flag presentation will be held.
Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be he held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Maxine; a son, Gary B. Wood of Arlington, Tex.; a daughter, Karen Tratchel of Newton; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Wood was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elk Lodge 1270, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Maytag Management Club and had been organist of the Elks Lodge for more than 25 years.
Mr. Wood, manager of the Maytag Co.’s cost accounting department at the time of his retirement in 1985, was a Navy veteran of World War II.
The son of Charles B. and Florence Gray Wood, he was born April 13, 1921 in Centerville.
He was married to Maxine McGinnis Sept. 24, 1944 in Albia.
