Gertrude Ver Steegt

SULLY -- Gertrude Van Wyk Ver Steegt, 71, a lifelong resident of Sully, died Sunday, Sept. 10, at Pella Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Christian Reformed Church in Sully.

Dr. Joseph Brinks, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Sully Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Sully Garden Chapel all day Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions to Progress Industries in Newton will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, Dwight of rural Lynnville; two granddaughters; and two foster children, Connie Sue and Sandra Diane Garrels.

Also surviving are five sisters, Carrie (Mrs. John) Braaksma of Newton, Minnie (Mrs. Ben) Ver Steeg of Pella, Jeannette (Mrs. Max) Antle of Sully, Mary Grace (Mrs. Henry) Terlouw of Grinnell and Fayeola (Mrs. Gerrit) Stouwie of Pella; and three brothers, Guybert “Bert” Van Wyk of Pella, Marion Van Wyk of Otley and David John Van Wyk of Sully.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, Oct. 5, 1974, three brothers, William, Cornelius and Henry Van Wyk and three sisters, Mary (Mrs. Gerrit) De Hoedt and Alenis (Mrs. Rex) Brush.

Mrs. Ver Steegt was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Sully.

The daughter of Guysbert and Gertrude Van Arkel Van Wyk, she was born Aug. 13, 1918 in Sully and was educated in Sully schools.

She was married to James A. Ver Steegt Feb. 23, 1939 in Sully.
