Robert L. Tabor
Robert Lewis Tabor, 63, of 501 E. 24th St. S., a lifelong resident of Newton, died this morning, Dec. 18, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Pauline; two sons, Rick of Monroe and Randel of Newton; a daughter, Pam (Mrs. Darrell) Smith of Newton; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Tabor of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Paula Jean Ervin, and a sister in infancy.
Mr. Tabor, a Navy veteran of World War II, was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, 40 and 8 and Last Man’s Club.
Mr. Tabor had been an employee of the City of Newton for 38 years prior to his retiring in 1988.
The son of Zyrl Joseph and Frances Marian Smith Tabor, he was born May 7, 1926 in Newton and was graduated from Newton Community High School.
He was married to Pauline Alford Feb. 16, 1947 in Atchison, Kan.
