Bernice B. Toedt, 80, of Newton, died this morning, June 1, at the Embassy Manor Care Center.

Reese Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which have not been completed.

Graveside services for the cremated remains of Bernice B. Hannagan Toedt, 80, a resident of Embassy Manor Care Center since April and a former resident of Mc Cann Village, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, in the Veterans Section of Newton Union Cemetery.

Military graveside services will be conducted.

The Rev. E. William Kaska, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will conduct services.

Reese Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

She died Thursday morning at Embassy Manor.

Survivors are two grandsons, John Bannister of Des Moines and Taichi Bannister of Lubbock, Texas; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Abbie Lampshire of Corona, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herbert, a son, John M. [sic-Russell B.] Bannister, two sisters, a brother, a half-brother and a half-sister.

Mrs. Toedt, a former owner of a beauty shop, was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

She had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

The daughter of James and Bessie Goforth Hannagan, she was born Oct. 27, 1908, in Newton and attended Newton schools. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, June 2, 1989
