Dick Terpstra
PELLA -- Funeral services for Dick Terpstra, 84, of Pella, a former longtime resident of the Lynnville and Sully area, were held today, April 17, at the Sully Christian Reformed Church.
Dr. Joseph Brinks, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Memorials to the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella may be left at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
Mr. Terpstra died Friday at the Pleasant Park Nursing Home in Oskaloosa where he had resided since 1986.
Survivors are his wife, Minnie; four sons, Richard L. of Pipestone, Minn., Vernon L. of Monroe, Virgil D. of Pella and Ivan E. of Newton; seven daughters, P. Irene (Mrs. Raymond) Bennink of Lynnville, Alberta (Mrs. Marion) Pol of Pella, Donna (Mrs. Lee) Asher of Davenport, Viola (Mrs. Ed) Goemaat of Pella, Marilyn (Mrs. Marvin) May of Pella, Twyla Meyers of Johnston and Julia (Mrs. Larry) Rumer of Pella; 33 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Carl, of Lynnville and three sisters, Anna (Mrs. Lambert) Olsthoorn of Sully, Wilhelmina (Mrs. Glen) Monsma of Pella and Wanda (Mrs. Cornie) Dunsbergen of Lynnville.
Mr. Terpstra was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Wilbur Dean in 1934 and Delano Gene in 1948, both in infancy; a brother, George; and two sisters, Reno (Mrs. Guy) Elscott and Pauline (Mrs. Harry) Engle.
Mr. Terpstra was a member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church.
The son of William and Perternell Terpstra Terpstra, he was born July 1, 1904, in Grinnell and attended school in Grinnell and Lynnville.
He was married to Johanna Wilhelmina Van Maanen Oct. 15, 1927, in Sully and they farmed in the Lynnville and Sully area until 1975 when they moved to Pella.
