Tom Leonard Dies at 56
Succums Today in Colfax Sanitarium of Pneumonia, ComplicationsCOLFAX—Pneumonia and complications proved fatal at 2:50 a.m. today to Tom Leonard, 56, Parsons Company employee at Newton, who died in the Colfax Sanitarium after an eight-week illness. Mr. Leonard entered the hospital a week after he was stricken.
Son of James and Margaret Leonard, he was married to Mary Wheeler on Oct. 6, 1909.
Surviving are his wife and four children: Mrs. Fred (Amanda) Iske, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Beals, and James O. and Orville, all of Colfax and vicinity.
With the exception of ten years in Minnesota, Mr. Leonard had spent all his life in Jasper County.
He was engaged in farming until retiring a few years ago to enter the farm implement business. He had been employed for the past two years at the Parsons factory in Newton.
No funeral arrangements had been made early this afternoon.

Funeral Services for Thomas Law LeonardCOLFAX—Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 14 at the Methodist Church in Colfax for Thomas Law Leonard, 56, who died Feb. 12.
Rev. I.R. Magers had charge of the services, and three songs “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere”, “Bring Them In” and “Sometime We’ll Understand” were sung by Mrs. Earl Plummer, Mrs. B.F. VanDyke, Dr. Fatland and B.F. VanDyke with Eleanor Howell accompanying on the organ.
Flower arrangements were in charge of Mrs. Floyd Wilson, Mrs. John Maher, Mrs. Allen Herbold and Mrs. J.H. Boyd.
Pall bearers were: James Leonard, Orville Leonard, Robert Beals, Fred Iske, James Good and Morris Trusler. Interment was in McKeever Cemetery.
Thomas Law Leonard, youngest son of Jas. and Margaret Law Leonard, was born Oct. 4, 1888 north of Colfax and passes away at the Colfax Sanitarium on Monday morning, Feb. 12, 1945 at the age of 56 years four months, eight days, after an illness of eight weeks from complications following pneumonia.
He was united in marriage on Oct. 6, 1909 to Mary S. Wheeler, daughter of Orville and Amanda Wheeler of Goddard, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Amanda, James O., Orville J. and Margaret, who with their mother survive.
He and Mrs. Leonard united with the Presbyterian Church of Colfax and later transferred their membership to the Methodist Church in Wadena, Minn.
He was an active member of the Sand Hill Grange until the last few years when his health would not permit. He had been a farmer until 1930 when he engaged in the implement business. The last two years he was employed in he war industry of Parsons factory in Newton, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife Mary and children Mrs. Fred Iske of Baxter, James O. of Colfax, Orville J. of Newton and Mrs. Robert Beals of Colfax; also three grandchildren Harlan and Letha Iske and Marven Leonard. Two brothers, Wm. Of Hines Creek, Alberta, Canada, James of Colfax and one sister, Mrs. Janet Trusler of Ira, one cousin Mrs. Mary Lillethun of Rainer, Oregon who has been visiting here since December 1st, also several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Margaret Good of Newton and a grandchild August Charles Iske.
