Alfred Sabin services held

Newton-Private funeral services for Alfred Sabin, 76, of Rockford,IL, a former resident of Newton, were held recently at the Sundberg Funeral Home Ltd. in Rockford.

Memorial contributions to the Court Street United Methodist Church in Rockford will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Chrystel; three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Grooters of Olathe, KS.,
Mrs. Virginia Hane of DeWitt, MI., and Jeannine Sabin of Rockford,IL., four grandchildren; three brothers, Edgar of Newton, Leslie of Sidney, NE., and Wilbur of Baxter; and five sisters, Mrs. Mabel Wheeler of Wausau, WI., Mrs. Mary Swigart of Salt Lake City, UT., Mrs. Irene Zwank of Pella, and Mrs. Alice Buchanan and Mrs. Emma Jackson, both of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Mr. Sabin, a 1922 graduate of Newton Community High School, had been active in sports at Newton, participating in football, basketball and track.

Mr. Sabin, an industrial arts teacher and coach for 41 years, also had taught Maywood, IL., and Bradford.

The son of Calvin and Maggie Simons Sabin, he was born Oct. 3, 1905 in Marengo, and took advanced education at Chicago Y College for two years, attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls from which he received his bachelor of arts degree and Columbia University in New York City from which he received his master's degree.

He married Chrystel Freeman April 16, 1932 in Harrisonville, MO.
