Edgar C. Sabin

New Hartford-Edgar C. Sabin, 87, of New Hartford, a former longtime resident of Newton, died Tuesday morning, May 20, 1986 at the Embassy Manor Care Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Daniel Ogata, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church in Newton, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Suvivors are a daughter, Dorothy (Mrs.Willis) Grant of New Hartford; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Wilbur of Baxter; three sisters, Mabel Wheeler of Wausau, Wis.,Mary Swigart of Salt Lake City, Utah and Emma Jackson of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Irene, June 23, 1968, three brothers. Everett, Alfred and Leslie, and two sisters, Irene Zwank and Alice Buchanan.

Mr. Sabin, a veteran of World War I, was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

He owned and operated a farm produce station in Monroe, had been a farm produce buyer for Swift and Co. in Newton, had owned and operated a radio sales and service business in Newton and had been an emplyee of Maytay Co. for approximately 28 years, retiring in 1963.

The son of Calvin M. and Maggie Simons Sabin, he was born Nov. 22, 1898 in Marengo and attended Newton schools and LaSalle Extension University.

He married Irene Hodgson Sept. 15, 1923 In Newton.
