Rev. Willis Edward Grant
Rev. Willis Edward Grant, 73, of Newton died of heart failure Tuesday Dec. 3, 2002, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with Pastor David Wendell officiating. Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery.
Pence Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home where family will be available from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the First United Methodist Church or to Wittemberg Church.
The son of Vernal E. and Anna Georgia (Shaw) Grant, he was born Jan. 1, 1928 in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1946 and was a graduate of Simpson College.
On Aug. 13, 1950, he married Dorothy Sabin in Newton.
Rev. Grant was a minister for more than 51 years in many churches in Iowa. He was an avid train collector and stamp collector, a member of the First United Methodist Church, past Lions Club member, a Member of Newton Noon Kiwanis and National Model Railroad Club. He was the pastor of Wittemberg Church in rural Newton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Douglas Wayne of Rolston and Robert Dale of North Carolina; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
