PIONEER MINGO RESIDENTS PASS ON

T. A. Streeter, Civil War Veteran and Mrs. B. Franklin Died Past Week

Jasper county lost two of its early pioneers the past week in the death of T. A. Streeter of Mingo and Mrs. B. Franklin formerly of that place.

Death of T. A. Streeter
Thomas Ambrose Streeter was born in Luzren county, Pennsylvania, September 15, 1840 and died at his home in Mingo, Iowa, October 29th, 1928, aged 88 years, 1 month and 14 days.
He came to Edon, Ohio in 1844 and in 1858 migrated with his parents to Iowa and settled in Clear Creek township, Jasper county. There he resided with the exception of three years in Missouri, until eleven years ago when he moved to Mingo, Iowa.
When a young man he united with the United Brethren church. He was a regular attendant of church Sunday school and a teacher in the latter until his health failed, but he remained a liberal contributor to church and public causes.
On February 7, 1860, he was united in Marriage to Miss Elizabeth Stock. To this union seven children were born, four of them preceding him in death, Sarah Elizabeth and Ambrose who died in infancy, Eliza at the age of 10 years and Henry at the age of 3 years.
He leaves to mourn his loss his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Lydia Mills, Mrs. Charles Leonard and Edna Funk, all of Mingo; nine grand children and four great grand children; two brothers and one sister, A. Streeter of Mack, Minn.; Mo___ Streeter of Denver, Colorado and Ella Snyder of Colfax; besides a host of other relatives and friends.
He was the last member of the ___ H. Keyes G. A. R. Post at Mingo, ___ next to the last member of his regiment; Charles Dodd of Collins being the last. He spent three years ___ member of Co. E, 40th Iowa Volunteer Infantry from which he was honorably discharged in 1864 at Fort Gibson.
A treasured possession of ___ daughters is a Bible which Mr. Streeter gave Mrs. Streeter before their marriage with the following text in the fly-leaf. "This is the truth ___ lighteth every man that cometh ___ the world."

Prayer was offered at the house by Rev. Kern of Lake City, Iowa, a___ which the body was taken to the Ashton church for services. Interment was made in the Ashton cemetery. The singers were Till M___son, Mr. and Mrs. Will Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. Euclid Harsh, Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Hawkins, and Mrs. Bertha B___ with Grace Bittner at the piano. They sang, "Lead Kindly Light" "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Rock of Ages." The pall bearers were: Gud De Ca___, Carl Janney, Frank Neal and F___ Stock of Colfax and C. W. Kim___ley and E. W. Pitcock of Mingo.
