Mary Catherine Sharp, 74, of Newton died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton with the Rev. Ernest Braida officiating. Burial will be at St. Andrews Cemetery in Tecumseh, Neb., at noon Tuesday, Feb. 21. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. A public wake/prayer service will be at the church Sunday at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The daughter of Arthur Brian and Mary Davey Kavanagh, she was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Omaha, Neb. She graduated from high school and attended teachers' college for one year at Peru State University in Peru, Neb. On May 12, 1951, she married Randall Sharp in Paul, Neb. She was a homemaker and taught rural country school in Nebraska for three years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a former PTA member.

Survivors include three sons, John M. Sharp of Ankeny, David Sharp of Des Moines and Thomas Sharp of Newton; a daughter, Jodi Sharp Helton of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susan; and her husband.
