COLFAX — William "Bill" C. Moffitt, 73, of Colfax died of cancer Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax at 10:30 a.m., with burial following at McKeever Cemetery. Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Catholic Church in Colfax, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A vigil service will be at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Hospice of Jasper County or the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Colfax.

The son of Almon and Vera Moffitt, he was born Jan. 29, 1933, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1951. On Sept. 24, 1958, he married Phyllis J. Freestone in Iowa City. He worked for Western Electric and later AT&T. He enjoyed traveling, golfing and fishing.

Mr. Moffitt is survived by his wife; a daughter, Laura (Joel) Stonebreaker of Minneapolis, Minn.; a son, Stephen (Michelle) Moffitt of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Moffitt of Newton and James (Jan) Moffitt of Lewisville, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
