Frances I. Ling, 75, of Newton died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service was held today at First Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Howard Vrankin officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville at 1:30 p.m. today. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.

The daughter of Jack and Miriam Maddy Mark, she was born May 4, 1930, in Knoxville. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1947. On April 2, 1977, she married Edward M. Ling Jr. in Knoxville. She worked for Continental Overall Factory in Knoxville, for Tenex Company in Pleasantville, Newton Laundromat and Careage of Newton. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Knoxville and First Lutheran Church in Newton. She was a member of Rebekas in Knoxville and the Rock Hound club in Cedar Rapids. She lived in Knoxville and in 1977, she became a resident of Newton. She enjoyed rock collecting, crafts, her dog Patches and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Johnnie L. (Kathy) Betterton of Chariton; three daughters, Wanda L. (Clifton) Brewer and Linda L. (Leland) Shelton, all of Chariton and Joy L. (Dwight) Vickroy of Knoxville; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Bonnie Findley of Knoxville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Herbert Betterton; and two grandsons.
