IOWA CITY -- Veral J. Leaman, 67, of Iowa City, formerly of Newton, died at her home Monday, Feb. 13, 2006.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City with the Rev. Kyle Otterbein officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to Iowa City Hospice

The daughter of Virgil E. and Neva N. Fassett Steele, she was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Waverly. She graduated from high school in Waterloo and then attended and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1960 with bachelor of arts degree in education. On Aug. 12, 1961, she married Donald Leaman in Waterloo. The couple lived in Newton after they were married until moving to Iowa City in 1968. For a number of years, she taught music and, for more than 40 years, gave piano lessons.

She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Sigma Alpha Iota Honorary Music Society, Music Study Club of Iowa City and the Piano Club. She was one of the founders and organizers of the Iowa City Piano Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Donna (Jeff) Aubrey of Plano, Texas, and Ellen (the Rev. Dr. Tim) Stidham of Dyer, Ind.; four grandchildren; a sister, Joyce E. Siddens of Waterloo; and her mother-in-law, Susie Leaman of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
