Mary Ann Jones, 77, of Newton died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Newton Union Cemetery with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. Public visitation will be Tuesday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Tribute Center, located at 201 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

She was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Newton, the daughter of Charles Bishop and Edith Elizabeth Frus. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. She was united in marriage to Barron Jones on Sept. 3, 1948, in Newton. She served as an administration secretary for the Newton Community School District for 21 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed her family, baking, knitting and cross stitch. She loved to shop for family gifts.

She is survived by her husband of Newton; a son, Scott (Marisa) Jones of Ames; a daughter, Jan (John) Booth of Newton; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ronald Lee Bishop.
