Dennis K. "D.J." Jansma, 43, of Newton died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton, with the Rev. Linda Butler and Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 5 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or St. Luke United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service.

The son of Orville "O.J." and Denise (Rick) Jansma, he was born May 4, 1962, in Morrison, Ill. He grew up in Clinton and also had lived in Pella and Galesburg, Ill., before moving to Newton eight years ago. Mr. Jansma graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton in 1980 and from Central College in Pella in 1984. He was united in marriage to Janet L. Holland on June 21, 1986, in Pella. He was director of finance in the finance department of the Maytag Company for 16 years.

Mr. Jansma was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Maytag Management Club and Habitat for Humanity. He loved woodworking, golfing, coaching, attending his children's activities and doing volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Greg Jansma and Brad Jansma, and a daughter, Katie Jansma, all of Newton; his mother, Denise (Dean) Jansma-Garlough of Port Byron, Ill.; two brothers, Dan (Gail) Jansma of Low Moor, and Darrin (Jennifer) Jansma of Bettendorf; his mother-in-law, Donna Holland of Newton; and a niece, Emily Jansma of Bettendorf.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
