SULLY — Cornie L. Jansen, 72, of Sully died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully. Burial will be at Sully Cemetery. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella is handling arrangements.

Visitation will begin Thursday morning and continue all day at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella where the family will be present Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m.

For those desiring, memorials may be designated for the Sully Christian Grade School.

He is survived by his wife Jerri; three children, Linda Zylstra of Sully, Leann De Jong of Ankeny and Jim Jansen of Sheldon.

Cornie Lewis Jansen passed away Monday evening, January 16, 2006, he passed away at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born south of Lynnville, Iowa on January 27, 1933. He was the fourth of five children and the only son born to Gerrit C. and Elizabeth Fopma Jansen.

Cornie graduated from the Black Oak Country Grade School and lived with his parents until he was drafted into the U. S. Army. Cornie served his country and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 27, 1955.

Following his discharge he and Geraldine Rus met and were united in marriage on September 17, 1957 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Linda Kay, Leann Sue and James Alan.

Cornie and Jerri lived at Newton, Iowa for three years following their marriage where he was employed at the Newton Seed Store. They then moved near Sully, Iowa where they resided for one year. Cornie and Jerri then built a home in Sully. During this time Cornie was employed at the Sully Cooperative Exchange in the lumberyard as a clerk and deliveryman. He worked there for nearly 40 years before he retired.

Following his retirement Cornie continued helping people. He was always ready and willing to help his family and friends. Cornie was a community-oriented person. He served on the Sully volunteer fire department for 40 years, as a member of the Sully ambulance service, was actively involved in the development of the Diamond Trail Golf Course, and was serving on the Sully Cemetery Board.

Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Jerri; their three children and their husbands and wife; and nine grandchildren:

Linda K. and Craig Zylstra of Sully, Leann S. and Scott De Jong of Ankeny and James A. and Rachel (Vander Berg) Jansen of Sheldon.

Of his original family Cornie leaves three sisters and their husbands: Bernice and Louis Dieleman of Pella, Iowa; Cornelia (Corky) Boat, Shirley and Bruce Baarda all of Sully. Of his wife, Jerri's family, Cornie leaves the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Dorothy and John Van Gorp Jr., Wilma and Arnold Ryken, John and Frankie Rus, Donald and Linda Rus, Nancy and Arnold Gritters, Marvin and Carol Rus all of Pella.

Cornie was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit C. and Elizabeth Jansen; his sister, Mary C. Nikkel; and two brothers-in-law, Harris Boat and Joe Nikkel.

Cornie was a lifelong member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church. He and Jerri enjoyed a very active life, including attending their grandchildren's activities and Iowa Hawkeye events. Cornie enjoyed traveling, gardening, golfing and observing God's creation. His family has many fond memories of their summer vacations spent together at Lake Okoboji, and they feel blessed to have had him as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
