Robert "Bob" Cottrell, 74, of Newton died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at his home.

A funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials may be left in his name at the funeral home.

The son of Frank and Maude (Taylor) Cottrell, he was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Grinnell. Mr. Cottrell was united in marriage to Marjorie D. Walker on Aug. 14, 1953, in Newton. He was a production worker at the Maytag Company for more than 39 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of UAW Local #997 Retiree's Union.

Survivors include a son, Terry (Amy) Cottrell of Newton; a daughter, Kathy (Rob) Smith of Des Moines; six grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Weaver of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1996; and two sisters, Vel Dammon and Alice Pearson.
