ROGERS, Ark. — Emma Pauline Bowers, 89, of Rogers, Ark., formerly of Newton, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday at Hamilton's Mitchellville Funeral Home with burial following at the Mitchellville Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The daughter of Carrie (Paulson) and Christopher Columbus Rice, she was born Nov. 15, 1916, in Altoona. She moved to Rogers in 2004 from Newton. She was a seamstress and enjoyed reading, gardening and crossword puzzles. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Keith L. (Mary) Battles of Crossville, Tenn., and Stanley M. Battles of Moyie Springs, Idaho; one daughter, Linda S. (Jim) Buttrey of Rogers, Ark.; four step-children, Linda Kimball of Des Moines, Larry (Evelyn) Bowers of Colorado Springs, Colo., Fred (Max) Bowers of Bondurant and Dennis (Sue) Bowers of Tacoma, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Rice; and six sisters, Lucille Waldorf, Helen Strange, Maxine Strange, June Oldes, Ann Wolfram and Ruth Sullenberger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Clifford Battles and Lloyd Bowers; one daughter, Carolyn M. Frederick; two sisters, Eva Powers and Martha Harris; and four brothers, Gerald Rice, Eddie Rice, Roy Rice and Junior Rice.
