NEWTON -- Kathy (Van Essen) Whittlesey, 52, of Newton died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Lt. Ronald Cook of The Salvation Army officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted in her name and may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Doyle "Joe" and Beverly F. (Wilson) Van Essen, she was born Aug. 9, 1952, in Des Moines. She graduated from Prairie City High School. On March 22, 1983, she married David E. Whittlesey, in Newton. She was a homemaker and a resident of Newton since 1986. She was baptized in the Monroe Presbyterian Church and attended The Salvation Army Church in Newton.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Tony Bishop and his fiancé, Missy Sites, both of Prairie City, and Eddie and Hope Whittlesey of Newton; two daughters, Holly Whittlesey and Heather Whittlesey, both of Newton; two grandchildren; her parents; and a brother, Tim Van Essen of Prairie City.
She was preceded in death by a son, Cory D. Whittlesey, in infancy and her maternal and paternal grandparents. ~ Newton Daily News, Tuesday, September 21, 2004
