Lena Lucile (Welle) Weston, 85, of 600 S. 13th Ave. W. died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Jerry Sawyer, interim pastor for Newton First Christian Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Ira.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name, Union Chapel or Jasper County Historical Society.

The daughter of Jacob J. Welle and Elsie Irene Davis, she was born May 15, 1919, in Webb. She was a high school graduate. On May 20, 1939, she married John O. Weston in Ames. She was a homemaker and taught rural school for two years. She helped her husband on the farm.

Mrs. Weston was a member of Ira Christian Church, Ira Grange for many years, Clio Club and Newton First Christian Church. She and her husband lived on the farm near Ira until 1987 and then moved to Newton. She enjoyed sewing and made draperies.

Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Emma Weston of Mitchell, S.D.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Constance and Darrell Neal of Fennimore, Wis., and Patricia and Larry Penn of Adel; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; two brothers, Glen and Lester Welle; and a sister, Grace Welle Adams. ~ Newton Daily News, Friday, December 17, 2004
