The Kelly – Vance wedding.

In addition to our extended notice of last week, the following details of the wedding will be of interest; The “Oak Hill” home of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Vance was the scene of an important occasion last Wednesday evening, as then occurred the marriage of Ms. Nettie Gertrude Vance and William J. Kelly. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. Vance, assisted by Mrs. Ida Mae Ludwick of Des Moines. Mrs. Vance was attired in a handsome black gown and Mrs. Ludwick in pink organdie the over pink silk. At three minutes to eight, the Mendellssohn March was rendered by a mandolin club, which was continued softly throughout the ceremony. The bridal party decended the stairs and crossed over to a grotto made of lovely flowers and lighted by small Dresden lamps, a veritable fairyland. The bridal party stood on a large white rug. The bride's maids were the bride sister, Miss Alberta Vance and the groom’s sister, Miss Nell Kelly.

The bride's dress was the quaint wedding gown of her mother, a French blue silk with Pearl trimming, point lace and Marie Antoinette collar of mousseline de soie. The bridesmaids wore dresses of pale blue organie over white silk, cut décolleté, and carried La France roses.

The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. Marks, of Peru, Illinois, a longtime friend and pastor of the family, who came from his home for that special occasion.

The dining room with attractive, decorated with carnations and smilax.

The tempting menu was served in three courses. The presents given were numerous and costly, a handsome sum in gold being the principal one from the bride's father, a similar one being received from the groom's people.

Mr. and Mrs. Kelly left for their home in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on the day following the wedding, and will be at home at 1815 Central Avenue after the 20th. ~ The Newton (IA) Journal, February 10, 1897
