Thanksgiving Day in Newton – This year Thanksgiving Day was ushered in with leaden skies and a general air of dreariness, making a striking contrast to the faces and hearts of the people, which were full of hospitality, charity and real sunshine-making it one of those happy days one loves to remember.

Union services were held in the Christian Church attended by a goodly number of our people. Rev. D. Brown of the Presbyterian Church, delivered an excellent and appropriate discourse after which the usual Thanksgiving collection was taken up for the benefit of the poor, amounting to something over $18.00

While our entire country is observing this holiday in National Thanksgiving, Newton is not behind. Socially, it was the day for general family and friendly re-unions and in this respect was probably more generally observed than ever before in our city.
