Golden Mile Stone – Last Thursday was the 50th anniversary of a social event which occurred at the then little town of Reynoldsburg, in Franklin Co., Ohio, on the 29th day of Dec., 1837 – the union in marriage of Mr. Mark Evans and Miss Matilda Inman. After a half century of wedded happiness, the children and friends of the venerable couple, assembled at their home, south west of town, on Thursday afternoon, to rejoice with them in their celebration of the important event. Mr. and Mrs. Evans are among our very best people, and have raised a family of whom any father and mother might well be proud. Will and Frank were the only absentees from the family circle, being at Osborn, Kansas; Inman, Oscar and family of this city and John and wife of Webster City, were present. An elegant gold watch and chain for “mother,” and a fine gold-headed cane for “father,” and numerous other remembrances from friends were received. We were promised a full account of the joyous occasion, but for some cause, it failed to come to hand. ~ The Newton Journal, 1-4-1888
