Old Church Sold After Forty Years

Plans for the purchase of the old Sugar Grove church building by the trustees of the new Baptist church to be established t Metz, have been abandoned, and yesterday the old structure and the acre plot on which it stands were bought by W. M. Baker for $350, thus becoming once more a part of the farm from which it was sold in 1870.

At the time the land belonged to Mr. Baker's father, John Baker, and the transfer was made to the trustees of the Sugar Grove Church, the building being erected the same year.

A few years ago, the church having fallen into disuse, these owners, in their turn transferred it to the Newton Free Methodists, who then had many adherents in that vicinity. Recently it has again stood lonely and unused, except for an occasional service or funeral.

Mr. Baker contemplates moving the church, which is in a good condition despite the years, and transforming it into a barn. ~ Newspaper unknown, 25 Jan 1911.
