Church Honors 60 Year Choir Member
Mrs. Alice Brooks of 1103 W. 7th St. S. has been a member of the church choir at the First Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years.
For her service to the choir, she will receive special recognition Sunday, April 24, during the 11 a.m. church service and will be honored at a reception immediately following the worship service. Her friends are invited to attend both the service and reception.
Mrs. Brooks was born in Beighton, England, and came to the United States with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Siddall and two brothers and a sister in 1913. She joined the First Presbyterian Church of Newton in February 1915, and stated singing in the choir at the age of 18.
She was married in 1923 to the late Horace Brooks, an inspector foreman with the Maytag Co. She has one daughter, Mrs. Cecil (Frances Jean) Kono, three grandchildren and five great-grandsons, all living in Minneapolis, Minn.
Mrs. Brooks has been an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, an active church worker and a teacher for many years in the primary department of the church.
