MOYER, Christian
Farmer; S. 2; P. O. Newton; born in Centre Co., Penn., July 21, 1825. Married for his second wife Caroline SHEARER in Iowa in 1874. She was born in Lawrence Co., Penn. in 1826. Had four children by his first wife - Mary Catherine, John W., Harriet Angeline and Lillie Bell. Has 109 acres of land, valued at $50 per acre. Moved into Ohio and thence to Scott Co., Iowa in 1855; thence to Jasper in 1865. He learned the tanner's trade and followed it ten years before coming to the Western States. Mr. Moyer and his wife are members of the Lutheran Church. He has a well improved farm, good buildings and orchard, grove, etc., which he made by his hard labor. Mrs. Moyer lived in Lawrence Co., Penn., taking care of her aged parents until their death in 1875; she then spent a season in Missouri visiting her friends, and thence to Iowa. ~ "Malaka Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
