McLEAN, W. M.
Farmer; Sec. 3, Wittemburg College; P. O. Newton; born in Trumbull Co., Ohio, Dec. 18, 1836. Married Agness McELROY in Iowa in 1872. She was born in Ohio in 1846. They had three children - Eddie and Annie (twins; Eddie died at the age of three years) and Hugh, born in 1875. He has 215 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre. Mr. McLEAN enlisted in the 86th Ohio V. I., for four months; served his time and re-enlisted in teh 76th Penn. V. I., called the Keystone Zouaves; was in the Army of the James; was in the battle and taksng[sic] of Fort Fisher, under Gen. Terry; was in nine severe engagements; was at and about Petersburg and in several small battles and skirmishes; was discharged at the expiration of his term of service. After the close of the war, he came to Iowa in 1869. Has held office of Township Clerk. Mr. McLean and brothers own the large college known as the Wittemburg College, and the College farm.
