MANNING, William R.
Lumber and grain, residence corner of Spring and Cherry streets. He was born 11 Feb 1841 in Nashville, TN. When an infant he went with parents to New Jersey, in 1849 to Illinois, and in 1854 to Jasper Co, Iowa. He first engaged in the bakery business with his father. In 1861 he enlisted in Co I, 10th I. V. I. He served about three years and was in the battles of Corinth, Iuka and others on the Mississippi under command of Gen. Grant. In 1864 he retired to Newton, Jasper Co., Iowa and engaged in the boot and shoe business until 1868, when he commenced his present business. He has been a member of the Council the past three years. He married Emma D. WOOD 04 Sep 1865. She was born in 1845, in Cincinnati, OH.
