HAYES, Daniel B.
Farmer and Stock Grower; Sec. 27; P. O. Prairie City; born in Henry Co., Ind., April 1, 1842; came to Jasper Co. in 1846; has 240 acres of land, valued at $65 per acre. Married Elizabeth PORTER in 1866; she was born in Indiana in 1842, and died in 1868. He then married Mary HENSLEY in 1871; she was born in Iowa in 1852; they have three children - Grace, Mercy and Peace. He is a Greenback Democrat. Has held the offices of School Director, Road Supervisor, and Justice of the Peace; held the office two terms, and resigned. Are members of the Christian Church. Was Master of Grange one year. Has just completed a house which is acknowledged to be the finest in this county; from the upper rooms of which one can see for twenty miles or more in any direction; as beautiful grove and as pleasant a place, generally, as the county affords. ~ "Washington Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
