HERBOLD, Christ
Farmer; S. 22; P. O. Newton; born in Prussia, May 16, 1821; lived there until 34 years of age, engaged in farming. Came to America in 1856, and settled in Scott Co., Iowa, where he lived until 1869, when he came to this county. His former wife was Miss Mary HERBOLD; they had a family of four children - Henry, Helena, William and Christian. Mrs. H. died in December 1854. His present wife was Cristiana STOMAEN; they have six children - Eliza, Louis, Sophia, Minnie, Emel and Mary. Mr. H. and family are members of the Lutheran Church; politically, he is a Republican. Owns 640 acres of land, valued at $16,000. He is largely engaged in stock raising; has eighty to ninety head of cattle, and seventy-five to one-hundred head of hogs; has also on his place an orchard of about 300 trees. ~ "Sherman Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
