HUNTER, George B.
Postmaster, residence corner Race and South streets. He was born 14 June 1840 in OH. In 1837 he came to Newton, Iowa, arriving here on May 7. He enlisted in 1861, in Co. B, 13th Iowa V. I. He served three years and was honorably discharged. His first promotion was to Eighth Corporal, then to Fifth Sergeant, then to First Sergeant, and in 1862 was made 2nd Lieutenant. He received his appointment to his present position in 1869. He married Susan A. DUNKLEE in May 1867. She was born 4 Feb 1843 in Pittsford, VT. They had two children; lost Frank T. in Jan 1877, aged 6 years. Their second child, not named, was born 2 Apr 1878. Mrs. H. is a member of the Presbyterian Church.
