RAMSEY, John
Farmer and stock raiser; Sec. 20; P. O. Prairie City; born in Chester Co., Penn., Feb. 18, 1827; came to this county in 1870; has 165 acres of land, valued at $8,250. Held the office of Town Trustee, etc. Belongs to the Christian Church. Married Catherine HUMPHREYS; she was born in Champaign Co., Ohio, April 22, 1822; mother of six children-William H., Mary Alice, Orpha J., James W., John H. and Cora E. His parents emigrated from Pennsylvania when he was a boy 12 years old, to Richland Co., Ohio; lived there eleven years, thence to Wayne Co.; lived there five years, thence to Crawford Co., where he married his wife, and lived there four years; thence to Cedar Co., Iowa, lived there eight years; thence to Warren Co., Ill., lived there four years; thence to Jasper Co., Iowa. Bought the farm where he now lives eight years ago, in its wild state, and to-day it is the premium farm of the county. Has a fine house and barn, good grove put out with his own hands; now stands from fifteen to twenty-five feet high; plenty of small fruit. Probably the best farm for the number of acres in the county, and he is one of the sound farmers of the county. ~ "Mound Prairie Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
