MARQUIS, S.
Farmer; Sec. 17; P. O. Colfax; was born in Pennsylvania, Dec. 26, 1829; came to this county in the Fall of 1871. Republican; belongs to the Presbyterian Church. Married E. J. SMITH; she was born in Fayette Co., Penn., Dec. 27, 1834; they have had nine children, seven living-Emeline, Hiram, Elmer, James Oliver, Sarah Elizabeth, Etta V. and Frank Miner. Emigrated to Hardin Co., Ohio, in 1858; lived there thirteen years; thence to Jasper Co. Enlisted three times, but was discharged for disability. Was employed by the Government three years in Hardin Co.; bought thousands of dollars' worth of stock; was in the agricultural business about three years; also owned a farm five miles east of Prairie City, in Sec. 31; has as good a farm as there is in Mound Prairie Tp.; was in Prairie City one year to educate his children; lives on what is know as the Lamb Place, one mile from Mineral Springs, and one mile from Colfax; has bought stock for two Winters in the county; raises on an average 2,500 of corn, 400 bushels of wheat, 900 bushels of oats, and turns off a car load of hogs; has 127 head on hand; has some fine-blooded Poland-China pigs.
