RINEHART, J. S.
Farmer and stock raiser; Sec. 17; P. O. Prairie City; born in Richland Co., Ohio, March 8, 1835; came to this county July 4, 1854; has 160 acres of land, valued at $7,000. Married Elizabeth NEEDLES; she was born in Knox Co., Ill., May 10, 1846; mother of four children-George S., Lormie, Charlie, Orra. Came to this county when he was 19 years old; his father was amongst the earliest settlers in this county; when he came here there were not more than four or five families in the township; there was plenty of game-deer, prairie chickens and wolves; came through with teams from Ohio; camped out and was on the road twenty-eight days; had about $8,000 in gold; bought and located 2,000 acres of land; had a family of eight children, and gave each of them a good farm; Mr. J. S. R. has one of the best orchards in the county, of 800 to 1,000 trees; has a good farm on as fine a prairie as there is in the State of Iowa. ~ "Mound Prairie Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
