COOMES, Isaiah
Farmer and Stock Raiser; Sec. 19; P. O. Prairie City; was born in Licking Co., Ohio, Jan. 12, 1821; came to this county in 1854. Has 180 acres of land, valued at $7,200. Politics, Republican. Held the office of Justice of the Peace eight years; also Assessor and Township Clerk. Married Mary Ann SLAUGHTER. She was born in Perry Co., Ohio, May 5, 1822. They have four children - Oliver, Sarah, Townsend and Jemima. Came direct from Ohio to Jasper County, where he has resided since. At the time he came here Washington and Mound Prairie were in one township, and the first election was held in Sand Ridge School House. Came here amongst the earliest settlers.
