TAIT, R. A.
Carpenter and Farmer; S. 3; P. O. Newton; born in Pennsylvania, Sept. 10, 1821. Married Miss SHERER in Pennsylvania in 1845. She was born in Pennsylvania in 1825. They have two children - Thomas WIlliam, born May 14, 1858, and Martha Emily (now Mrs. M. W, LEWIS, Hastings, Neb.), born in Pennsylvania Dec. 7, 1845. Mr. T. has 110 acres of land, valued at $5,500. He moved to Illinois one Winter, and thence to Iowa June 14, 1856. Mr. T. followed carpentering from his boyhood; he built the Wittemburg College, and many of the houses and barns in Malaka Tp. Mr. and Mrs. T. are members of teh Congregational Church; he votes the Republican ticket. Mr. T. was an early pioneer in this section before the township was organized. He has made good improvements on his farm; has an orchard of all kinds of fruit, and a large grove, etc. ~ "Malaka Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
