SWIHART, W. C., Mrs.
Farming and Stock Raising; S. 31; P. O. Newton; she was born in Germany, Oct. 22, 1832. Married in Ohio in June 1853 to Frederick SWIHART, deceased. They had six children - Wilson, Amanda (now Mrs. L. ALSPAUGH), Catharine, Emma George Henry and William Edward. Mr. Frederick Swihart died in Feb. 1874. He was a man of great energy, and very generous in giving liberally to schools and churches, and benevolent associations. He made a specialty of sheep raising, keeping 600 to 700 sheep. He was very successful, leaving a large farm with good buildings and other improvements. Mrs. Swihart and her son Wilson carry on farming quite extensively, owning together 160 acres of land, valued at $50 per acre. Mrs. Swihart came to Pennsylvania when a child; moved into Ohio, remaining till 1867, when they located in Iowa. Mrs. Swihart is a member of the Lutheran Church.
