Emory Brown (1860-1946) married Isora Williamson and their children: Fannie Breeden, Nora Palmer, Hazel (died in infancy), Fern Cook, Ada Phillips, Rilla, (died of spinal meningitis at 15 years of age), Leroy, and Alliene Stewart. Emory was also guardian of Leozma and Geneva Williamson, twin daughters of Isora's brother.
Emory was one of fifteen children of Nelson LaFayette Brown who lived in Rock Creek township after moving from Indiana. His Grandmother, Laura, wife of Emery A. Brown was bitten by a rattlesnake while picking berries near Rock Creek and never fully recovered.
Emory lived in Hickory Grove township most of his life farming the same farm for over 50 years.
While on an errand to pick up a neighbor, Emory was in a Grinnell restaurant when the famous cyclone struck Grinnell. He worked all night helping dig victims from the demolished college.
