Leroy William Brown was born in 1899. On June 7, 1933, he married Lois Hammer. Leroy and Lois were the parents of six children: Raymond Brown, married Marie Eversdyk and their children are: Billie, Carol, Donna and Mike. Raymond farms near Rock Creek Lake. Walter Brown married Margie Setner and their children are: Becky, Karen, and a son Thomas Leroy who died in infancy. Walter manages International King's Table Smorgasborg in Vancouver, Washington. Delmar Brown married Clista Davis and their children are: Kelly, Wendy and Kristie. Delmar is an engineer at KSUI in Iowa City, Iowa. Lyle Brown married Janet Innis and their children are Angie, Tim, and Tracy. Lyle is a contractor in Grinnell, Iowa. Doris Brown married Jim Clements and they have two sons, Roger and Charlie. Doris teaches in Newton, Iowa. Irene Brown married John Rice and they have a daughter, Caroline. Irene is a college student and lives in Lowell, Oregon.
Leroy farmed with his father until his father's retirement. He was in the U.S. Army and spent a few years in Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City and Cheyenne, working on the railroad. Leroy and Lois farmed the same farm southwest of Newburg for twenty-two years and their son, Raymond, is farming it now. Leroy drove one of the first buses for Newburg School, graded roads with horses and worked with Ray Smith in the blacksmith shop in Newburg.
Lois (Hammer) Brown taught in the rural Mariposa Township schools for eight years. She was active in Farm Bureau, Federated Women's Club, U.B. Aid and the United Brethren Church. After Leroy passed away in 1975, Lois moved to Grinnell, Iowa.
