I think?? Charley Patten (Pattin)(Patton) may have married Samantha Smith. I have Son lewis in census (1880) with Grandparents P.L. & Nancy Caroline Carter. Then I show Lewis (correct age) with Charley & Smanatha Patten in 1885 Census. I believe that his first wife may have died.
Salina, Sabrina, Saline CARTER B. 1853 May have died 1870 - 1885. If someone has access to IA Jackson County (Probably) death info would appreciate any help. thank you
