I just wanted to respond to my own query! I have discovered that my MARKLE line died out in Jackson county. As far as I can discover, the MARKLEs who now reside in Maquoketa are not related in any way to my branch. My working theory is that my line of MARKLES left Canada following the political uprisings of 1838. In the Iowa State census of 1841, the family is enumerated below Samuel CHANDLER. Samuel CHANDLER was from St. John, Welland, Upper Canada and was exiled after siding with William Lyon Mackenzie during the Upper Canada Rebellions of 1838, and acting as a leader during a skirmish. Perhaps my MARKLES had similar leanings, as there is a documented history of such activity in the line. I have learned that Daniel Eastman MARKLE (born 1818 in Ontario, Canada) was a lawyer and an itinerant preacher who made his way west and died 21 Sept 1896, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His brother, Walter MARKLE (1837-1890)ended up in Denver, Colorado. I have additional information to share for anyone who is interested.
