In Response To: Smith's Ferry Road (LaDonna Waechter)

Smith's Ferry is the Mississippi River Ferry business of Samuel Gilpin Smith, who came to the area with his wife Orinda Bankson in ca 1846. Her
Father Andrew Bankson came to Iowa in 1836 with wife and many children. Unfortunately many of the Bankson settlers died in Iowa. Orinda died in 1848 and Samuel Gilpin Smith married Mary Ann Peck, the daughter Rev. John Mason Peck. It is an adventuresome and tragic story; i am just researching. I am a descendent.
