Henry John Schocker was born in Fairfield Township March 15, 1870. He was the son of Nicholas Henry and Sophia Meinke Schocker. He grew up on the farm and lived his entire live in Jackson county, with the exception fo one year in Walla Walla, Washington and 3 years in Lake Benton, Minnesota.
On December 28, 1904, he was united in marriage to Anna R. Thill in Davenport, Iowa. They lived there a while before moving to the Squires farm just east of Maquoketa, which they rented August 16, 1905 and moved there December 18, 1905. To this union was born one daughter, Anna Clara. His wife passed to her heavenly home on this farm on February 2, 1909.
Then on November 26,1914, he married Mrs. Mary Niblock, after living with his parents, west of Maquoketa, until this time. For five years they lived on the home farm west of town, moving to Maquoketa in 1919. For nine years he was associated with his brother August L. in business here.
He was a man of quiet and unassuming disposition. A man of sterling charachter and business honesty. He was a member of the Reformed church, IOOF Lodge #33. But he was especially attached to his home and loved ones where he found comfort and consolation during the days of his failing health.
He passed to his heavenly home September 19, 1928 at 5:30 a.m., Wednesday, 112 S. Otto street, Maquoketa, Iowa, leaving one daughter, Miss Anna Clara, two brothers, August L. and John P.; two sisters; Mrs. Amelia Nieland and Mrs. Mary Loitz all of Maquoketa. His age at the time of death was 58 years, 6 months and 4 days.
Transition services were held 1:30 at the home, 2:00 p.m. from the Methodist church, Friday, September 21, 1928. The Rev. A. W. Sinden of the Congregational church in charge of the services. The body was laid to rest in Mt. Hope cemeter.DEATH DATE: 19 Nov 1928
