Funeral of Late W. H. Palmer Held Saturday Afternoon

The funeral of the late Attorney Willard H. Palmer, whose death occurred in Davenport last Thursday morning, was held from the Congregational church Saturday afternoon, where a large concourse of friends gathered to pay their final respects to their fellow townsman. Dr. Leland of the spiritualistic faith delivered the eulogy.

Mr. Palmer was conceded to be one of Jackson county’s most able attorneys and capably filled the office of county attorney for several terms. As a counselor he was conscientious and highly competent, and as a trial lawyer he was keen and shrewd. As a citizen Mr. Palmer was exemplary and as an acquaintance he was loyal and as a friend he was loyal and true.

Willard H. Palmer was born in Perry township, Jackson county, August 6, 1854, and was the son of Allen and Eliza Palmer, who came to Iowa in 1852. He completed his education at Cornell college, Mt. Vernon and studied law at Iowa City. After teaching school and studying law several years he was admitted to the bar in 1880. In 1882 he located in Sioux City, where he practiced law successfully for 16 years, then returned to Maquoketa and thereafter followed his profession up to a short time ago when he decided to make his home in Davenport. In 1883 he married Miss Jennie Doudy, a native of Virginia, who with four sons, Clayton of Monticello, Ervin of Seattle, Wash., and Roy of the Philippine islands; four daughters, Mrs. Ed Pelton of Des Moines, Lottie Helen and Norms of Seattle, Wash., and a brother, A. D. Palmer of Chicago, survive.

Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
