Jackson Sentinel, August 12, 1869:

DIED

On Tuesday the 3rd inst. Mr. Armstrong Hawkins aged about fifty years.

An upright honest man has gone. A kind Father and industrious frugal citizen has departed. Mr. Hawkins moved to Iowa in 1854 from Southern Indiana and purchased himself a farm in the timber upon which he has since resided. Only the week previous he was bereft of the wife of his bosom by the same disease which caused his death, and which has prevailed to such an alarming extent throughout the timber.

Several members of his family are now prostrated with this fever but hopes are entertained of their speedy recovery.
