Drowned at Pinhook

On Thursday morning last, John Kjer, a brother of Lorenz P. Kjer, clerk at the Arcade, was drowned at Pinhook. He was in the employ of T. K. Nickerson & Son, as a lime burner, and his parents resided on the opposite side of the river. He was accustomed to crossing the river to his meals in a skiff or boat, and it is thought that he was accidentally carried over the dam and drowned while crossing on that fatal day. It was not until evening that diligent search was instituted for the missing man, and on Saturday afternoon the body was found floating about 80 rods below the dam. He was a young man, twenty-four years of age, and of steady habits. Saturday evening the remains were interred in Mt Hope cemetery, and on Tuesday afternoon Rev. Grundrig, Danish minister from Clinton, preached the funeral sermon at the German church in this city.
