Jackson Sentinel, March 25, 1869:

DIED

On the morning of the 20th, Mrs. Mariah Hoyt, wife of Mr. N.E.Hoyt of Maquoketa Township, aged 42 years.
"Misfortunes never come singly." We condole with Mr. Hoyt in the loss of his companion. Mrs. Hoyt was an estimable woman, and enjoyed the esteem of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. She was an exemplary member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, having joined at the early age of fourteen, thus living a Christian life for 28 years.
Her last words were, "I have on the wedding garments for Heaven." Mr. Hoyt has lost a wife, Heaven has gained a bride.
